Joseph H. Miller was born in Lexington in 1944 and graduated from Vanderbilt
University in 1966. Mr. Miller graduated from the University of Kentucky College
of Law in 1969, with High Distinction, and was a member of the Order of the Coif
and the Kentucky Law Journal.
Mr. Miller has had a long and distinguished career in civic and community
activities, having served as Chairman of The Lexington Public Library Board and
a member of that Board from 1978 to the present date. He has been Chairman of
The Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning, Chairman, Central Kentucky Legal
Services, Inc., and President of Temple Adath Israel. Mr. Miller is the
recipient of the coveted Henry T. Duncan Award in recognition by his local bar
association of service to the community.
Mr. Miller has been married since 1967 to Suzanne and they have three children,
a son in New York City, and two daughters, one living in Boston and one in San
Francisco. In addition to travel, Mr. Miller enjoys reading, genealogy and
long-distance walking.
Mr. Miller's areas of practice include litigation, corporations, healthcare,
administrative practice, business organizations and construction law. Mr. Miller
has been with Gess Mattingly & Atchison continuously since 1972, following his
having served as a Captain in the United States Army for three years.
