The law firm of Gess, Mattingly & Atchison has one of the oldest estate planning and administration practices in Lexington, Kentucky. Our estate planning and administration lawyers serve individuals and families throughout Central Kentucky.

For over fifty years, we have helped individuals, families, professionals and business owners assure that their assets will be distributed according to their wishes and at the lowest possible tax cost. Our attorneys have extensive experience developing, implementing and administering sophisticated tax planning strategies for our clients, including “Crummey” trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, family limited partnerships, grantor retained annuity trusts (GRATs), qualified personal residence trusts, sales to intentionally defective grantor trusts, dynasty trusts, charitable split interest trusts, and charitable conservation easements. Gess, Mattingly & Atchison was one of the first firms in central Kentucky to utilize the family limited partnership as an estate and gift tax planning technique and represented the taxpayer in one of the first IRS audits of the technique to take place in this part of the country. Our creativity and expertise have saved our clients literally tens of millions of dollars in estate and gift taxes.

The fast changing world of tax and estate planning demands a commitment to continuing education that is unique in the legal profession. Our attorneys have made that commitment as is evident by the quality of the product delivered to our clients. That product always reflects the latest ideas and strategies of the estate planning profession tailored to the individual needs of each client, delivered expeditiously and at a reasonable cost. At Gess, Mattingly & Atchison we never attempt to “sell” a strategy. Instead, we take our experience and apply it to the specific needs of the client. We encourage you to contact one of our estate planning attorneys to discuss how their expertise can help you realize your estate planning objectives.
