C. Timothy Cone presently serves as President of Gess Mattingly &
Atchison, P.S.C. The principal areas of his law practice relate to Business
Organizations and Transactions and Commercial Lending and Real Estate.
Mr. Cone began his practice with Gess, Mattingly, Saunier & Atchison in 1968. He
subsequently was a partner in two other Lexington firms and served as
Commissioner of Law for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. After
being president of Fasig-Tipton Company, a thoroughbred auction company, he
rejoined Gess, Mattingly & Atchison in 1991.
Mr. Cone's focus has been on business related topics, having been involved with
many organizations and transactions of different kinds and complexities. He is
experienced in business formations, mergers and acquisitions, as well as with
commercial lending and real estate matters of all kinds. In addition, he
regularly represents clients with respect to land use planning, media and First
Amendment issues and equine law.
Mr. Cone has provided significant community involvement. Presently, he is a
Trustee of Dupree Mutual Funds, a publicly traded operator of municipal and
government bond funds. He is also the Treasurer/Director of the Lexington
History Museum, and on the Board of Lexington Industrial Foundation. For many
years, he was an Advisory Director of PNC Bank, Kentucky, and a Trustee and the
Treasurer of Sayre School. He was formerly a director of St. Joseph Hospital
Foundation, Lexington Habitat for Humanity, Lexington Urban League and Fayette
County Legal Aid Corporation.
Other Boards on which Mr. Cone has served include the Citizens Fidelity Bank of
Lexington, Lexington-Fayette Urban County Transit Authority, Urban County
Tourism Commission, Fayette County Board of Elections, Fayette County Republican
Party Executive Committee (chairman) and Northside Neighborhood Association
(President). He has been a member of the Federal Judicial Selection Commission
and Kentucky Bar Association Character and Fitness Committee.
